Modern Monday: Anniversary Presents- year 4

This week's anniversary gifts are linen and appliances: sorry Etsy- won't be able to find everything on you today! And I'm a little bias when it comes to appliances since my favorite day is when I receive my William Sonoma catalog in the mail! So most of these modern anni gifts can be found in their store or on their website. Enjoy!

Thrifty Thursday: Floating Book Shelves

It may seem I'm on a kick with DIY shelving systems.  Well I am but there's meaning behind the madness I promise.
1. We love books in our house.  We both read but my husband reads A LOT and he likes to keep ALL his books.  So needless to say, we own many, many books and I would like to display them (if we must) in a creative way.
2. Shelving is expensive- especially when you consider what it's made out of: wood (and not rare, expensive kind), glue and nails/screws.  So, why spend all that lettuce?
3. I love it when I see something that I like and then realize that "I can do that" and save money at the same time.  And I'm thinking there are a lot of you out there that are thinking the same thing...
4. There are so many GREAT DIY ideas out there! I promise I will eventually get to them all but this is the one I chose today.  So enjoy!

I've seen these "floating" invisible shelves in several stores and wonder when the day will come when I either am crazy enough to spend the money one them or when they will go on sale.. haha! But here is the greatest thing: all you need are L-brackets, a level and a little bit of time.  So simple and CHEAP!! You can find the instructions (if you call them that- it's so self-explanatory) on the  MayDecember Blog

Please share if you decide to attempt this DIY project! I would love to hear from you! Enjoy!

Thrifty Thursday: DIY Bookshelves

I'm so excited to share with you guys that, now, every Thursday will be dedicated to fun, innovative DIY ideas.  I keep finding all these wonderful and clever ways to re-purpose objects or create something you've seen for a fraction of the price.  And I know that if these projects are on my "list" to do, then many of you would be interested in them also.  So, here's to saving money and being crafty! Enjoy!

I saw this online and traced it back to the blog that originally posted the idea.  This would be perfect for a kid's room.  You need the BEKVAM spice racks from IKEA and the installation is super easy! They look great with the plain wood or you could paint or stain them.  The possibilties are endless! These would be great in an entry hall or office also.  Here's the site to the posting:
We are keeping this idea to use in a future kid's room but I'm sure some of you are able to DIY now.  Please share if you decide to take on this project (photos welcome) and what you used it for! Thanks and more to come next Thursday!

Saturday Shop Spotlight: Debbie Carlos

This week's Shop Spotlight is Debbie Carlos from Etsy.  Debbie is Chicago-based and specializes in posters and prints.  I have chosen a few (ok, more than a few) of my favorites from her shop. You can purchase any of these on her Etsy shop at debbiecarlos

I LOVE nature and mountains and clouds and pretty much everything she has that comes as a poster.  Her technique is great as well as her paper choice.  These are definitely on my list to buy.  Well done Debbie! Y'all enjoy!

Friday Fabric Finds: Japanese Laminated Fabric

This week's fabric is dedicated to my sister Lindsey.  She actually introduced me to this wonderful laminated fabric.  I haven't purchased any yet because it is a bit pricey but it's worth it because it's so colorful and fun! Oh the things you could make with this! Enjoy!
